This study focuses on the relationship between teacher knowledge in force and motion, as measured by the ATLAST teacher assessment, and student learning, as measured by the ATLAST student assessment. The hypothesis is that student learning will be greater when students are taught by teachers with more understanding of force and motion concepts. The more general claim-that teacher knowledge has a positive causal relationship with student learning-is a central assumption of virtually every MSP.
